Merging into the other lane when roadside workers are present isn't just polite. In fact, it's the law in all 50 states. Slow Down or Move Over laws are designed to help reduce roadside casualties seeing how over 200 people lose their lives in the line of duty roadside in America each year.
These laws state that when any of the following vehicles are roadside with their emergency flashers on you are required to either change lanes when passing or slow down to 15 miles below the posted speed limit if you are unable to merge.
- Tow trucks
- Ambulances
- Law enforcement
If you were not aware of these laws, don't worry. According to statistics, 71% of American drivers are unaware that they exist. The team here at Bald Hill Dodge Chrysler Jeep RAM hope that you will share this information with others so we can help keep the roads safe for emergency workers and keep you out of legal trouble!
