During the fall season leaves turn beautiful shades of orange and red, and the air becomes cooler. Taking the long way home to check out the scenery may sound like a good idea, but, there are some tips you need to know before you head out.

  • Watch out for fallen leaves. They can damage your car, cover potholes, and hide curbs. Wet leaves pose as an even bigger danger. The leaves become slippery when wet and can feel like you're driving on ice. So slow down and don't brake too abruptly.
  • Be aware of road conditions when it's dark. Daylight savings is over so days are shorter and nights are longer. Keep this in mind when driving on unfamiliar roads that may be covered in leaves.
  • Check your tire pressure once a week. The fluctuating temperatures cause your tires to expand and contract more often which makes them lose air. Tires that are improperly inflated puts you at a greater risk for tire failure or a blowout.
