While a few aftermarket companies have attempted similar projects, the engineers at Jeep® decided that cramming a Hellcat engine into a Wrangler was an endeavor best undertaken in-house. That's right, Jeep® has taken the legendary Wrangler, a vehicle best known for setting the standard against which all 4x4s are measured, and given it a 6.2-liter supercharged V-8 engine that produces more than 700 horsepower.
“This is one of those things that only we can do,” says Mopar design chief Joe Dehner. “A lot of fabrication went into this.”
In addition to the insane power plant (for which designers had to stretch the wheelbase a full twelve inches), the Trailcat's windshield was cut down two inches, and the doors and roof were replaced with door bars and a roll cage. Other modifications included Fox shocks, Dana 60 axles front and rear, and 17-inch wheels wrapped in humongous 39.5-inch BF-Goodrich Krawler T/A KX tires.
Though unlikely to ever see a showroom floor, the exciting Trailcat is fully functional and ready to show off alongside six other exciting concepts during the 50th Annual Easter Jeep Safari, taking place from March 19th through the 27th.
